Nick awarded best presenter in the HKU Summer Fellowship Research Colloqium 2025
October 2025
Our summer research fellowship student Nick was awarded best presenter in the HKU Poster Presentation & Research Colloquium of Summer Research Fellowship in October 2025. Nick researched on the origin of illegally seized leopard cats (Prionailurus bengalensis) in Hong Kong using phylogenetics.
Dandan received the Young Investigator award in SMBE 2025
July 2025
PhD candidate Dandan presented her research in the role of introgression in the evolution of sex-determination systems across stickleback lineages during the Annual Meeting of the Society for Molecular Biology & Evolution, 2025 (SMBE 2025). She was awarded the Young Investigator Attendance Award for her active participation and outstanding contributions.

Charlene, Dandan and Uva received awards for best presentations in EBRS 2024
May 2024
PhD candidates Charlene, Dandan and Uva all received awards at the HKU Third Annual Ecology & Biodiversity Research Symposium (EBRS). Charlene delivered a presentation on the intraspecific comparison of germline mutation rates in sticklebacks and was awarded the Judges’ Choice for the Best Talk. Uva and Dandan were awarded first and second place for the best lightning talk respectively. Uva talked about her research in the population structure of incense trees in Hong Kong while Dandan presented her research in the evolution of sex-determination systems across stickleback lineages.
Uva awarded best poster presenter in the HKU Research Postgraduate Symposium 2024
March 2024
PhD candidate Uva delivered a poster presentation at the HKU Research Postgraduate Symposium 2024. She was awarded best poster presenter for her poster on the use of molecular genetic tools to conserve the vulnerable incense trees in Hong Kong.

Charlene won best student talk in AsiaEvo conference 2023
Dec 2023
PhD candidate Charlene attended the Third AsiaEvo Conference in Singapore and presented her talk about germline mutation rates in nine-spined sticklebacks. She won first-place in the best student talk category.
Charlene won the audiences' choice for best poster in EBRS 2022
PhD Candidate
PhD student Charlene presented her preliminary results about the germline mutation rates in nine-spined sticklebacks in the HKU Second Annual Ecology & Biodiversity Research Symposium (EBRS). She was awarded Audiences’ Choice for the Best Poster.
